Children aged 5 years and older who are capable of sitting quietly through up to three hours of performance are welcome at HGO performances when accompanied by an adult. Should a child become restless, our ushers will direct adult and child to an area where they may watch the performance together on closed-circuit television until the child is able to be calm and quiet. Adult and child will be welcome to resume their seats at the next intermission.

Out of consideration for other patrons and for the performers:

There is no late seating at HGO performances. Patrons who are noisy or disruptive may be asked to leave the performance by ushers or by a member of the Opera staff.

Use of cameras, recording devices, cellular telephones, pagers, beeping watches and recording devices are forbidden inside the hall. Cameras and recording devices may be confiscated.

Complimentary cough suppressants are available at Houston Grand Opera performances. Visit the HGO Guild Boutique or the Customer Care booth in the Grand Foyer.

Food and beverages are allowed in the lobby area only. Bottled water may be taken into the theater.

Smoking is prohibited in the Wortham Theater Center.
For your safety inside the auditorium, we request that you remain seated until the house lights are turned on.

Pre-Curtain Lectures - Held 45 minutes before each performance on the orchestra level of the theater. These 20-minute presentations are free and open to all ticket holders. During the 2007-08 Season, pre-curtain lectures will be given by HGO Dramaturg Colin Ure and Ann Thompson.

Refunds, Exchanges and Fees
Houston Grand Opera tickets are non-refundable. Full-season and Opera-To-order subscribers may exchange their tickets for a different performance of the same opera, subject to availability.

Exchanges can be made by phone or online until 24 hours before the performance begins; for exchanges within 24 hours of curtain time, please visit the box office in person.

Please note: Mini-series and non-subscription single tickets are not exchangeable. No exchanges are permitted after the performance has begun.

How to Exchange
In Person: at the HGO Box Office, located in the Wortham Theater Center at 550 Prairie Street. The Box office reopens for the season on August 27. Hours are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. If there is a performance on a Saturday, the Box Office will be open from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Hours are subject to change.

By Phone: Call Houston Grand Opera’s Customer Care Center at 713-228-OPERA (6737) during regular office hours and one of our representatives will assist you with your exchange.

When exchanging tickets online or by phone, you will be asked for your HGO Account Number, which is printed on your tickets and above your name on most Houston Grand Opera mailings. You may also be asked to provide your credit card number and expiration date along with your name, address, and a telephone number where you can be reached during business hours.

Exchanged tickets are mailed within 24 hours of processing, unless your new performance is within seven business days of the exchange. In that case, tickets will be held at the Will Call window at the Box Office under the subscriber's last name. They can be picked up beginning one hour and thirty minutes before the performance.

Ticket Donations
If you are unable to exchange your ticket for another performance of the same opera, we encourage you to donate your tickets back to the Opera to be resold; donated tickets are tax-deductible, and you will be provided with a receipt for tax purposes. Ticket donations may be made by calling HGO’s Customer Care Center, by e-mail, fax, mail, or in person at the Houston Grand Opera Box Office. The paper tickets do not need to be returned in order to donate them, but the donation must be made before the performance begins so that the Box Office has an opportunity to sell the tickets.

Lost or Misplaced Tickets
There is no charge for replacing lost tickets. More than 24 hours prior to the performance: Call the Customer Care Center at 713-228-OPERA (6737) to request your replacement tickets. They will be reprinted and held at the "Will Call" window for your performance.
