Since 1980, English Touring Opera has been committed to bringing opera of the highest quality to regions throughout the UK, and we now give over 150 performances a year to more than 50,000 audience members across the country. ETO also runs an extensive Education and Community Participation Programme complimenting our exciting and varied programme of performance perfectly. The most recent programme included creative learning as well as drama and music therapy as part of ten projects with more than 5,000 participants of all abilities, aged from 3 to 90.

ETO CORPORATE SUPPORT
Through corporate contributions (cash and in-kind) towards English Touring Opera's work, your company will enhance and promote its image and messages to an audience of well-educated, affluent opinion-shapers and decision-makers. * English Touring Opera started as Opera 80 - a touring company founded in 1979 to bring high quality opera to areas of England that normally would not have access to opera productions.
* In 1992 the company changed its name to English Touring Opera.
* For the past 25 years English Touring Opera has travelled the length and breadth of England forming important relationships with communities through touring productions, education and outreach projects and local community involvement.
* In its first 25 years, English Touring Opera has presented some of the country's leading principal singers including: Sarah Connolly, Mary Plazas, Paul Nilon Alison Hagley, Susan Gritton and Jonathan Veira. ETO has also shown the work of such groundbreaking directors as Richard Jones, Robert Carsen and Stephen Pimlott. The ETO orchestra has been lead by such guest conductors as Ivor Bolton and David Parry.
* In 2005 ETO was nominated for a South Bank Award for James Conway's Spring 2005 production of Donizetti's Mary Queen of Scots.
* In Autumn 2006 - English Touring Opera mounted an acclaimed baroque opera festival which brought 5 baroque operas and over 40 different community and outreach events to 15 different locations.
ETO CREATIVE TEAM
James Conway - General Director
James is both artistic director and general manager of ETO. As well as supervising the running of the company and choosing the repertory, he also directs some of the ETO shows.
David Burke - General Manager
David arranges the ETO tour schedule, taking bookings from theatres and tries to ensure we visit all areas of the country. He is also in charge of the company's finances.
Michael Rosewell - Music Director
Michael brings to ETO a wealth of experience in the opera house, and specialist knowledge of the development of young singers. Michael continually works to develop the musical standard of the company, working with the General Director on casting and repertoire selection and through his work with the ETO orchestra.
Tim Yealland - Artistic Associate, Education
Tim plans and devises ETO's education projects for people of all ages and abilities - from on stage workshops to residencies in schools and special children performances. He also participates in and runs many of these programs
Naomi Collins - Education/Office Administrator
Naomi makes sure the ETO office and runs smoothly. She is also in charge of ETO's music library and works with Tim on education and outreach programmes.
Gareth Spillane - Marketing Manager
Gareth is responsible for the revenue generated through tickets sales and contributed income from individuals, sponsors and trusts. He manages a team of marketing professionals to achieve these objectives as well as build sustainable audience development, form local area chapers and conduct market research to optimize how ETO serves all audiences.
Sebastian Stern – Marketing and Press Officer
Sebastian is responsible for developing ETO profile through national, regional and local press. He also manages ETO’s new media, including e-marketing and web based video.
Esyllt Wyn Owen - Senior Marketing Officer
Esyllt is responsible for forming ETO Networks in all the areas we tour to and developing and deploying marketing at various venues. She is also responsible for developing the ETO programme and related production materials.
Henriette Krarup - Strategic Development Officer
Henriette works mainly with our Paul Hamlyn Foundation hubs: Cambridge, Wolverhampton, Truro and Exeter. She is also responsible for individual and corporate support.
Brendan Dinen - Development and Finance OfficerBrendan works on generating revenue from trust funds and foundation and also securing cash and in-kind partnership through regional and local sponsorship. He is also responsible for keeping the ETO database up to date, tracking budgets and helping to prepare payroll.
Paul Tucker - Production Manager
Paul is responsible for all managing and supervising all the technical aspects of an ETO tour including liason with designers, carpenters, stage managment team and insuiring the shows are transported to each theatre, set up and broken down to go to the next venue.
Shawn McCrory - Artistic Administrator
Shawn is responsible for contracting ETO's singers and orchestral players and for looking after their welfare and development. He works in the ETO office some of the time and acts as company manager on tour.
The ETO education programme has been a vital part of English Touring Opera's work for over 15 years and has been nominated for 2 RPS awards. Our goal is to make ETO's rich cultural resources accessible to as many people as possible through a variety of projects for young people and adults, including those with special needs. We hope to extend the range of educational opportunities available to even more venues across the country.
The centre of our outreach is twofold: to introduce people, young and old, to opera in general and to particular works; and the creation of new music- theatre - the result of collaborative work between our own artists and amateurs. Our policy is to be as inclusive as possible, engaging equally with people with and without disability
Teachers' packs are available free, on request, for a number of operas. They contain information relating to characters and plot, political background, composers' biographies and musical extracts, as well as some introduction to opera and vocal techniques.
