Milwaukee’s Florentine Opera Company is Wisconsin’s oldest and most enduring performing arts organization. It is also the fifth oldest opera company in the United States.
Today Florentine audiences enjoy:
Beautifully mounted main stage productions each season that include first-rate vocal artistry, the visual excitement of elaborate, period authentic sets and costumes, high drama, light hearted comedy and superb choreography - all on one stage!
Spectacular, timeless classics such as the 2002 Milwaukee premiere of Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier
Outstanding modern works such as the 1999, North American premiere of Lowell Lieberman’s Picture of Dorian Gray
The 2002 Milwaukee premiere of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream…
The Florentine Opera believes that the arts should be integral to learning, and that every person should have an opportunity to experience live arts performances as well as the ability to access these experiences. Our education and outreach programs invite both young and old to the Florentine Opera to explore its lifelong value.
The mission of the Florentine Opera Education Department is to make opera more inviting and accessible to communities in Milwaukee and throughout the state of Wisconsin by:
* educating students and the community about opera and career opportunities within opera
* providing opera introduction and continuing education events for adults
* providing opportunities for young artists
While the action is happening on stage, some very important people are orchestrating all the action backstage. They are the production crew and this is a glimpse into what they do. |
