Opera Speaks @ VPL
In partnership with the Vancouver Public Library, Vancouver Opera presents its award-winning series of free public forums on themes and issues arising from the season’s operas. In these fascinating and lively sessions, esteemed writers, academics, practitioners, artists and other creative thinkers engage in penetrating discussion and dialogue that deepen the connections between the operas’ stories and our lives.
All sessions take place from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in the Alice MacKay Room at the central branch of Vancouver Public Library. Admission is free. Coffee and sweets courtesy of the Vancouver Opera Guild.

"Singing Puccini"

Join esteemed Canadian conductor Jacques Lacombe as he explores the glorious music of Puccini - including arias and a duet from La Boheme - with two rising young singers: soprano Melody Mercredi and tenor Sam Chung.
Melody Mercredi was the “Wild Woman of the Woods (the Queen of the Night) last season in VOs touring production of The Magic Flute: Quest for the Box of Shadows. Sam Chung sang the role of Stephen in the widely acclaimed touring production of Naomi’s Road. Both singers are members of the VO Chorus this season and will appear in La Bohème. Sam Chung will also sing the part of Parpignol, the toy seller.
