Here's to an evening of fun and festivities as Knoxville Opera's 30th anniversary celebration opens with a rousing toast to Oktoberfest, featuring highlights from Sigmund Rom berg's romantic operetta The Student Prince. Journey back to Old Heidelberg where ivy-covered university halls reverberate with the glorious sound of male voices singing in praise of wine, women and song. Raise your glass and toast such timeless classics as "Deep in my Heart," "Golden Days," "Gaudeamus Igitur," the beautiful "Serenade," and, of course the students' famous "Drinking Song."
The Knoxville Opera Guild hosts a pre-opera dinner before the Friday evening opening performance of each new opera. The venue for this event is the beautiful dining room of Club LeConte atop the First Tennessee Bank Building. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. opera attendees may enjoy a cocktail while socializing with friends. Following the social hour, a delicious dinner is served. Guests attending this event have sufficient time to arrive at the theater and be seated for the 8:00 p.m. curtain. It's a fabulous beginning to a delightful evening of opera.
In addition to the pre-opera dinners, there are many excellent restaurants located near the performance venues. We’ve listed some of our favorites to help you out. Please check with the restaurant to be sure that they will be open; Knoxville Opera cannot guarantee that the business hours listed below are correct.
After the Opera
Just because the opera is over, that doesn't mean that your night on the town has to be! There's plenty to do after the curtain closes. Go out for a drink or some coffee, catch some live music, or go dancing at a nearby club. Don't feel like heading home? Spend an evening at one of downtown's hotels or bed and breakfast inns. And when you've had a little too much of a good time, call a cab and get yourself home safely.
