First Act Opera provide captivating 'bespoke' entertainment for corporate and private clients. Our unique performances bring Opera to selected audiences with all the life and spirit of the grand stage. From large formal dinners to small private events. We guarantee an intimate Opera experience to live long in the memory.
First Act Opera International is administered by Managing Director Elaine Holden, Musical Director Kenneth Roberts and Producer John von Nuding. The company has now accumulated over 1500 performances, including broadcasts for the BBC and Classic fM, TVS and Channel Television. We have performed in a great multiplicity of venues both in England and abroad. The company has made five visits to
East Asia and was the first British opera company to perform in Beijing – a landmark event which was covered by BBC TV’s Newsnight programme. As well as traditional chamber operas, the company’s performance extends to extracts from various operas delivered at more informal charity and corporate “Gala Dinners”. Prestigious venues include the Royal Albert Hall and in 2002, four members of the company made history when they were asked to sing a tribute to the Queen Mother as the prelude to the Grand National at Aintree in front of a live television audience. This audience increased to one and a half billion people worldwide in 2004.
Bringing opera out of the more traditional venues enables First Act Opera to tailor their performances to suit any event - from large formal dinners to smaller, more private, events. Significant impact, and wonderful, memorable, entertainment can be achieved with four to six singers and piano. For larger events and variety - more singers, actors, celebrities, dancers, martial artists and orchestra can be added to craft that unique occasion.
Described by the Times as “opera with panache between courses” and the Independent as “like Classic fM with food “, the musical entertainment provided by First Act Opera International is an experience not to be missed.
First Act Opera was founded in 1990 with the specific aim of bringing Opera out of the Opera Houses to more unusual and intimate venues - reaching wider audiences and overcoming the ‘stuffy, highbrow’ image this medium has unfairly acquired. Gone are ‘the emperor’s new clothes’ and here is genuine and captivating entertainment. With every performance, our reputation has grown due to the excellence of our performers, the accessibility of our productions and the professionalism of our producers.
First Act Opera specialise in tailored and bespoke performances for corporate clients. All of our productions are created especially for the venue and audience. Whether it's a large formal dinner or smaller private party, our producers and performers have the expertise to transform any space into the setting for an intimate and unforgettable opera experience.
As well as being the first British Opera Company to perform in Beijing (sponsored by NatWest Markets and hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce), we have put on programmes for some of the most prestigious companies and individuals in the UK and abroad.
As a dynamic international opera company, First Act Opera are responsible for private and public events all over the UK and abroad. To date, we have undertaken over 1500 performances to all kinds of audiences - from royalty and heads of state to major corporations, charities and small private parties.
Through our Regeneration in Harmony initiative we are also actively working in junior and secondary schools, introducing inner-city children to music and drama. This important work culminates in a performance from students to parents and members of the local community.
First Act Opera are a key driving force behind the Regeneration in Harmony initiative. Regeneration in Harmony concentrates on the well-being and self-esteem of young children across the UK by introducing them to Tai Chi, music and drama.
The project, which began in the London borough of Southwark in 2006, brings First Act Opera professionals together with students to stage their own performances for parents and community members. By working together and breaking down barriers, our aim is to improve the personal development of all children and significantly increase the accessibility of important arts such as opera and Tai Chi in the UK.
